The Science of Body Proportions
The human body follows fascinating mathematical ratios. Did you know that your wingspan (the distance from fingertip to fingertip when your arms are stretched out) is almost exactly equal to your total height? This is famously depicted in Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man. Our tool uses these established anatomical averages to predict your shoe size, wingspan, and leg length just from your height.
Height to Shoe Size Correlation
There is a strong correlation between height and foot length. On average, a person's foot is about 15% of their total height. Taller individuals need larger feet to maintain a stable center of gravity. Our calculator takes your height, calculates the 15% footprint length, and converts that length into standard US and EU shoe sizes.
What is the "Ape Index"?
The Ape Index is a measure of your arm span relative to your height. A neutral ape index (1.0) means your arms are exactly as wide as you are tall. Many professional athletes, particularly in basketball and swimming (like Michael Phelps), have a positive ape index, meaning their wingspan is significantly longer than their height, giving them a biomechanical advantage in their sports.
